The Idea of Australia is a bold four-part SBS series produced by Blackfella Films, exploring how the nation’s identity has evolved and how it might grow stronger in the 21st century. Blending expert interviews, archival material and powerful personal stories, it examines Australia’s lesser-known history through four pillars - people, institutions, land and culture and unpacks recurring themes such as fairness, migration, inequality and First Peoples’ exclusion.
As a second unit on the series, we were assigned the mission of capturing authentic b-roll showcasing Australia's diverse communities and iconic scenery.
The filming process took us on a journey from the CBD to Western Sydney - our nimble, talented crew beautifully captured the faces and lives of Australians in their element.
We are proud to have contributed to this documentary, where the scenes we captured helped build an inclusive, vibrant portrait of contemporary Australia.
